Respite might be for a week, or just for an hour or two. The person with dementia may be cared for at home, in a day centre, or in a care home.
Crossroads in Kent is split into West Kent, East Kent and Medway, thus providing different services. Crossroads Care West Kent provides free, flexible home-based respite to carers (running from Dartford and Gravesham in the West, through to Maidstone, Sevenoaks Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and surrounding areas). This short break service is delivered by trained carer support workers, enabling the family carer to have “time out for themselves” to pursue their own interests.
Following on from an initial assessment this service is then tailor made to suit each individual family’s requirements, the aim being to match the carer support worker to the family to ensure the visits are both enjoyable and beneficial . This Crossroads service is also available to those clients who are self funding.
In addition to this regular Crossroads service there is a palliative care service for those caring for a friend or relative with a life-threatening condition, a night sitting service and a Dementia Crisis Emergency support service. Click on a bubble below to select the desired topic.
